Matthew 6:13b For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
These familiar words are not found in all manuscripts of the New Testament, and do not appear in all translations. Still, they are completely consistent with the rest of Jesus’ teaching about God and His Kingdom, and form a fitting conclusion to this wonderful prayer.
In this prayer we are placing ourselves at our Father’s feet, affirming His holiness, crying out for the coming of His Kingdom, and calling on Him for provision, forgiveness and protection in the battle. It is really all about Him.
Around His throne are four living creatures “full of eyes all around and within”. Their many eyes are focused on the One who is seated on that throne. All day and all night, they never stop saying the same words, over and over again. “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:6-8)
As we cry out to God “Your kingdom come”, let’s ask Him for grace to keep our eyes on the One who is seated on that throne. It is His Kingdom that we seek, every good thing comes from Him, and He alone is worthy of our praise and adoration (Revelation 4:11, 5:9-13).
